Questions to ask before you apply

• For equipment, match the term to the asset’s life and ask about end-of-term buyouts on leases.
• For working capital, ask for total cost and payment frequency.
• Who is the contracting party on the agreement, and is it a loan or a purchase of receivables?
• At what stages is credit checked, and is it a soft or hard inquiry?
• What is the total dollar cost, the payment amount and frequency, and the term?
• What happens if you repay early, and what happens in a slow month (reconciliation or interest-only options)?
• Are there origination, draw, maintenance, or closing fees, in dollars?

How to compare a written offer

Put the amount, factor rate or APR, fees, and term into the factor rate calculator to get total cost, payment size, and an estimated APR on stated assumptions. Then compare against any other written offer on the same basis. A provider’s marketing page cannot be compared; only its written offer can.
